The Belt and Road Initiative and Turkey’s Strategic Interests

Considering China''s increasing political and economic significance in the 21stcentury, it is not surprising that China attracts a lot of attention due to itsnumerous achievements and the diverse challenges faced by the country.AsChina constantly expands its impact zone, more and more countries aregradually being affected by China''s policies and projects.In this context, it iscrucial to notice that the Belt and Road Initiative is the most comprehensive andessential one in today''s circumstances.The purpose of this study is to examinethe Belt and Road Initiative and its harmony with Turkey''s strategic interests.Inthis framework, the author explores Sino-Turkish relations'' historicalbackground, BRI''s primary content, Turkey''s participation in the BRI, andpotential challenges between Turkey and China.Eventually, the author targetsto examine the project''s compliance with Turkey''s strategic interests.Tounderstand both countries'' interests and solve conflict resolution between thesecountries, the author aims to explain the opportunities and challenges ofcooperation between China and Turkey.To meet the objectives of this study,the author builds the basis of the survey with China''s rise, China-Turkeyrelations, and Turkish foreign policies.Afterwards, the researcher delineates theoriginal Silk Road, the Belt and Road Initiative''s overview, and the project''sbenefits to China and other BRI countries.Subsequently, the author scrutinizesTurkey''s opinion on the project by examining Turkish media''s, policymakers,and Turkey''s participation.Eventually, the researcher discusses Turkey''s self-financed projects and its compliance with Belt and Road Initiative.The findingsof this study indicate that the middle corridor initiative is compatible with Beltand Road Initiative.Furthermore, the analysis demonstrates that the projectoverall is consistent with Turkish foreign policy and strategic interests.Finally,as far as the economy is concerned, the Turkish and Chinese demography havesimilar growth patterns and similar social structure changes, which undoubtedlyimplies more room for further cooperation.
